The re-elected head of Khakassia, Valentin Konovalov, was born in the Khabarovsk Territory and has no Khakass roots. United Russia member Sergei Sokol, who is called the future speaker of the Supreme Council, also does not have the required ethnic origin.
At the same time, at least one of the heads of the executive or legislative branch of the republic must be an ethnic Khakass, the telegram channel “Elections, elections, elections …” reported. This is an unspoken republican tradition.
The Council of Elders of the Khakass people signed an appeal to the deputy with a request to elect a Khakas as chairman of the Supreme Council.
In the gubernatorial elections in Khakassia this year, a most unusual political situation developed.
United Russia member who ran for head of Khakassia will resign as State Duma deputy
The draft decision on the early termination of Sergei Sokol’s powers was submitted to the State Duma for consideration. RBC reported this.
Sokol ran for the post of head of Khakassia, but withdrew from the elections five days before the start of voting. The reason was health problems. At the same time, Sokol remained number one on the United Russia list in the elections to the Supreme Council of the republic. RBC, citing sources, reported on the prospects of a State Duma deputy to take the place of Speaker of the Supreme Council.
