In 2023, Belarusians spent the most time learning cross-border lessons from the Duolingo service.
Syabra Kaardynatsynay Rada Alina Kharysava has created a new chapter of the Belarusian language and a list of foreign languages, which can be learned directly from the Duolingo service.
“The Belarusian language is officially in a precarious state when there are few native speakers, and for a couple of centuries, it was one of the main European languages. Duolingo, as one of the most popular learning applications, can produce great results not only in this country but also in the whole world,” says Pettytsy.
In addition, in response to the ongoing war in Russia, many Belarusians have become aware of the importance of their national identity, which is why they are experiencing the partial use of the Belarusian language.
“Although in the circumstances of dictatorship, this is not only difficult, but it can be and is unsafe because the Belarusian language demonstrates disagreement with today’s Dyktatar palette of Russian Russification. People are denied the opportunity to learn their native language, so the easiest and most accessible way is to get better online programmes for learning the language. “In addition, Belarusians are demonstrating their commitment to European values, and increasing the availability of Belarusian language for learning and making the Belarusian language more accessible to foreigners,” wrote Alina Kharysava.
At the moment 476 people out of a necessary 1000 have signed the petition.
A mobile programme for learning languages, Duolingo allows you to learn 36 languages, three are currently in the beta-testing stage and the final language is in the development stage.
