The sculptural composition in memory of the uprising of 1863-1864 will be inaugurated in the Lithuanian capital on the 160th anniversary of the execution of Kastus Kalinowski.
The monument was erected in the historical centre, on the territory of the Franciscan monastery, where the first religious and patriotic anti-Russian demonstrations took place six months before the start of the uprising – so the place was not chosen by chance.
The sculptural composition was placed in front of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Bronze figures of four men are placed on a wide round podium. On the left side stands a Franciscan monk, blessing the cause of the uprising with a cross, on the right side are the rebels themselves, facing the shrine.
