Her coaches discovered Sambo wrestler Ksenia Cheponova’s body on 17 August, reports the Novosibirsk publication NGS.ru.
The girl’s death was also confirmed by the Novosibirsk Sambo Federation.
The athlete ran a Telegram channel, in which a suicide note appeared on the day of her death.
“I was not a good person, but I was not a bad person either, I do not understand what is my fault. That I was born with narrow eyes, or that I am dark-skinned? I was never ashamed of my nationality until some people began to turn it into a joke,” Cheponova wrote.
The Investigative Committee for Novosibirsk Oblast has opened a criminal case in connection with Cheponova’s death. The Investigative Committee’s press release does not specify under what article the case was opened.
