Verbatim: “It has become known about the critical health condition of the Crimean political prisoner Rustem Guguryk, whom the Russian occupation authorities are holding in correctional colony No. 8 in the city of Ulan-Ude (Buryatia). According to relatives, the situation is taking on threatening proportions, and the medical care that the prisoner should have received is either provided untimely or is absent altogether.”
Details: The Crimean Tatar Resource Centre reports that the health of Guguryk, a Crimean political prisoner, has significantly deteriorated: after installing a Holter monitor due to shortness of breath, no examination results were received, and kidney stones discovered during a medical examination in September were never cured.
Health problems were exacerbated by a severe cold caused by poor conditions in the colony, which lacked proper heating and access to clean water and food.
In addition, Guguryk’s eardrum ruptured, which led to purulent discharge from his ear, likely due to purulent otitis media or another dangerous infection.
The political prisoner also reported that he was sent to a penal colony as planned, although, without any violations, it was simply “his turn.” The colony where he is being held primarily houses elderly people, and the use of the SIZO has become a common practice without any justification.
On 31 March 2022, Guguryk was arrested by the Russian military, accusing him of participating in the Noman Chelebidzhikhan Battalion, and on 26 October 2022, he was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison.
