The Transnistrian region of Moldova (locally called Pridnestrovie, Pridnestrovskaya moldavskaya respublika, or simply “PMR”) is the territory of Moldova occupied by the Russians. The Republic of Moldova, that is, its constitutional government in Chisinau, lost its border on the left bank of the Dniester 25 years ago. Then came the war on the Dniester in 1992, and the Russian occupation disguised as “peacekeepers”.
But it is time to put an end to this. Transnistria today is a poor region without a future. Although President Sandu is not ready to resolve the “Transnistrian conflict”, the point of no return has already been passed. Next winter is probably the last one that the region will go through before entering a full-fledged settlement. And, regardless of who wins the elections in Moldova, Dodon or Sandu, this does not mean that war will return to Transnistria. Quite the opposite. Moldova’s weapon will be gas, and its supply to Transnistria. Previously, Putin gave it away for free. Now that’s in the past. Serhiy Sydorenko (“European Truth”) and Yevhen Cheban (MOST) talk about this.
