On 20 July, 2026, US President Donald Trump issued the annual Proclamation as part of Captive Nations Week, in which, in particular, he declared:
Communism has always been a doctrine of darkness, promising equality and prosperity while causing suffering and ruin.
America gives hope to every enslaved people who dreams of sharing them, and to nations who yearn to be free.
We stand with all who yearn to breathe freely, who are imprisoned for speaking the truth, punished for their faith, and deprived of the abundance that only freedom can bring.

For reference: On 17 July, 1959, the U.S. Congress passed a law (Public Law 86-90 Captive Nations Week Resolution) designating the third week of July as Captive Nations Week throughout the free world. The resolution called on the President of the United States to issue proclamations annually regarding this week until freedom is achieved for all these nations.
