In Yakutsk, nameplates have disappeared from the Monument to the Memory of Poles, victims of exile in the 18th-19th centuries and mass repressions of the 20th century.
The loss was discovered by the head of the Yakut branch of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments Ruslan Vasiliev. He wrote that back in the spring the monument was fenced off, but the inscriptions were intact then. Now they are not left on any of the five stones.
There are no official comments on the reason for the dismantling. A monument commemorating hundreds of exiled Poles who died in 1941-1947 was erected in Yakutsk in 2002. In April of this year, the monument was fenced off. Local residents fear that the stones may be demolished.
