Ukraine gave impetus to the peoples enslaved by Russia for self-determination and choosing the vector of their further national development, – says Maria Ochir-Goryaeva, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute and Honored Scientist of Kalmykia.
“Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, the national movements of the regions advocating separation from Moscow have received a new impetus,” emphasizes Ochir-Goryaeva. – A number of analysts are seriously talking about the possible collapse of Russia in the event of a turning point in the course of the war, noting in this the special role of Ukraine externally and the Caucasus inside the country.
Now it is very important not only to revive the national movement in Kalmykia, but to reduce the influence of the Kremlin on the republic and its plight. The independence of Kalmikia has matured long ago, this is a necessity. I think that all regions of Russia, not only the republics, should become independent and then function like the European Union. This means that each has its own state, order and administration, but in common issues – for example, environmental protection, projects for the future – they act together.”
