Anti-imperial Block of Nations

Historical politics is not only about the past, but also about security today. In the episode of “Chicken Kyiv” with historian and head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Oleksandr Alferov, we talk about the main challenges for national memory: how Russia has influenced our historical consciousness for decades, why Ukrainians should study history without imperial narratives, and why change the names of cities, streets, and even international toponyms. Does this hinder our Western partners? What role do genealogy, decolonisation, and a return to one’s own roots play in this transformation? And what can be done to prevent the memory of the Holodomor or repressions from being overshadowed by foreign wars and foreign “heroes.”
