Anti-imperial Block of Nations

In Kyrgyzstan, they are returning to their roots, getting rid of the suffixes “-ov” or “-ev” in their surnames. The corresponding bill was supported by deputies, reports the IA “NewTimes.kz” with reference to KaktusMedia.

Citizens of Kyrgyzstan who want to get rid of the suffixes -ov (-ev) in their surnames will no longer face many problems.

Deputies approved amendments to the law in the first reading. The draft law provides for the addition of new spelling options for the surname and patronymic:

When writing the surname from the grandfather’s name, the word “uulu” for male children and the word “kyzy” for female children are added to the name of the child’s father at the request of the parents;
when writing the surname from the grandfather’s name with the addition of the word “tegi” to the child’s father’s name, at the request of the parents, the word “uulu” is added for male children and the word “kyzy” for female children;
when writing the surname from the grandfather’s name with the addition of the word “tegi”, the possessive endings “dyn/tyn”, “din/tin”, and “dүn/tүn” are added to the father’s name for male children and “dan/tan”, “den/ten”, “dөn/tөn” for female children.

Deputy Zhyldyz Sadyrbaeva expressed concern about the possible abolition of the endings -ov and -ev in surnames and asked for clarification on this issue.

One of the authors of the project, Mirlan Samoyokho, explained that the existing spelling, including the use of the words “uulu” and “kyzy”, remains. He added that an alternative spelling will be offered at will – those who want to will be able to use “tags”.

The day before, it was reported that the speaker of the Zhogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Shakiyev changed his last name and became Turgunbek uulu Nurlanbek.
