Russia’s war against Chechnya revealed to the world the essence of Moscow’s imperial idea to the most secret depths. So, in the name of the integrity of the superpower, built over the centuries by the tsars and strengthened by the general secretaries on the blood of the conquered peoples, it is possible – according to the current Kremlin leaders – to destroy the disobedient Chechen nation, which, you see, was tempted to become equal to its state neighbors. The Moscow “tailors” had a good hand at reshaping foreign lands and acquired the virtuoso skill of attributing their aggressive nationalism to those who seek the same national freedom for their people as the Russians have. Fortunately, there are honest people among the Russians, but, let’s face it, there are too few of them for a great nation that has given the world many geniuses, but will not be able to get out of the power of chauvinists and dictators.
Russia’s war against Chechnya showed the world not only the indifference of ordinary people, but also the hypocrisy of major politicians. None of the all-powerful rulers raised their voice in defense of the Chechen nation. Therefore, despite the partial collapse of the “evil empire”, the world has not taken a decisive step – in the direction of universal justice. Hitler-style fascism lives and works where Russian chauvinists are trying to implement the slogan: “Ein Folk, ein Reich, ein Fuhrer!” on conquered and alien territories.
The lines of this book are the pain of my conscience, the wound of my heart; this is the very question: is Europe so noble and is our freedom so real, when this bloody crime is being committed before our eyes, and we pretend that we do not see or hear anything? This is a curse to the Chechen people, who tore off the mask from imperial Moscow, showed humanity its beastly grin and laid the strong foundations of their independent state with a heroic struggle.
