Sparks of national tension are flaring in Russia: the “Russian Community”, known for its far-right, anti-migrant rhetoric, is entering into a fierce confrontation with Caucasian and Muslim communities. Akhmed Zakayev, Prime Minister of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in exile, declares: The Caucasus is ripe! The peoples of the Caucasus are uniting to form their own “Caucasian Community” in response to provocations. Putin’s divisive policies have led to a split in society into warring camps. From the Moscow region to Krasnozavodsk, clashes, arson and nationalist attacks are becoming the new norm. Where will this confrontation of communities lead? Will “Siberian” or “Yakut” communities appear? Who is the real enemy of the Caucasus – and how to use the moment for unification or confrontation? This video explores how Russia’s policy of division can become its Achilles’ heel and what the country’s future holds.
