The Altai people’s leader, Aruna Arna, sent a letter from prison. This is what the courageous woman says:
“I’m simply shocked by the news. My lawyer couldn’t come to me because there are gas shortages everywhere.
People are standing in line for three hours just to get their precious 30 litres of gasoline. It’s a nightmare! We can expect supply and transportation disruptions. And that will lead to more serious consequences.
My Republic of Altai is an agricultural region. And hay harvesting is just around the corner. Without diesel fuel, it will be impossible to use agricultural machinery.
How will we harvest and transport the hay? The old-fashioned way, with a cart and horses? Even if we solve this problem this way, we can expect global shortages, price hikes, and famine.
The authorities promise to resolve the fuel issue by fall. Frankly, I don’t understand how they intend to do this. A conscientious owner or manager should have anticipated this course of events and should have prepared.
Apparently, the system is only capable of jailing those who speak honestly for the sake of truth. This includes speaking about possible threats to the country.
I hope the people will not silently slide into the abyss.”
