This was reported by the public association ” Crimean Solidarity “, Ukrinform reports.
“His health is not good. He was in a prison hospital in Saratov, he was not fully treated there, and he was transferred,” said his wife, Liliya Shikhametova.
It is noted that the political prisoner has damaged joints in his legs, which is why he can hardly walk. The squad brings him food from the canteen. He was brought to the meeting with his lawyer in a wheelchair. Shikhametov said that if he walks, it is with crutches.
“I feel severe pain while walking. It takes me two and a half hours to cover a distance of 50 metres. After walking, everything hurts, so I have to take painkillers. My stomach hurts from the medication, because of the ulcer,” the Crimean Tatar described his condition.
During a medical examination conducted before the transfer, he was found to have an enlarged liver and kidney stones. Shikhametov added that he has high blood pressure, heart pain, suspected diabetes, headaches, and impaired vision.
According to him, the documents for receiving disability were supposed to be sent by doctors in Saratov. But, as he was later informed, he was transferred by order of the prosecutor, so the issue with the documents was not resolved.
Shikhametov appealed to the administration of the colony where he is being held with a request to place him in the hospital to confirm his disability group.
As reported, Crimean political prisoner Yashar Shikhametov, sentenced to 11 years in prison, was taken to VK-37 in the village of Yaya, Kemerovo Region, Russia.
On 17 February 2021, mass searches were conducted in occupied Crimea, during which six Crimean Tatars were detained: Azamat Eyupov, Yashar Shikhametov, Lenur Seydametov, Timur Yalkabov, Ernest Ibragimov, and Oleg Fedorov. They were accused of terrorism and involvement in the activities of the religious organisation “Hizb ut-Tahrir,” which is banned in Russia.
In September 2022, the Russian Southern District Military “court” sentenced Yashar Shikhametov to 11 years in prison on terrorism charges.
