In the Kursk region, the Russians began to use the tactics of a defence breakthrough, accompanied by significant losses in personnel and equipment. The commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Pavlyuk said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
According to him, at the beginning of the operation in the Kursk region, the Russians tried by any means to stop the advance of the Armed Forces.
“The enemy made ambushes and used aviation. At the same time, the Russians mercilessly bombed their own settlements. After the departure of our troops to the designated lines and the transition to defence, the enemy switched from conducting manoeuvre defence to offensive actions,” Pavlyuk explained.
The Ground Forces commander added that the Russians using small group tactics depending on the number of detachments and, with artillery support, try to dislodge Ukrainian units from their positions.
In addition, according to him, the Russians began to use defence breakthrough tactics. In certain areas of the front – units up to a company (battalion) in number, supported by armoured vehicles.
“This tactic is accompanied by significant losses in personnel and equipment, and mostly, even in the case of success and wedged into the battle formations of our troops, most of the equipment and manpower is destroyed by our anti-tank means, artillery and FPV drones. Up to 30% of the enemy’s equipment during an attempt to advance is destroyed thanks to mine-explosive barriers,” Pavlyuk emphasized.
The enemy’s successes are accompanied by significant losses, which forces him to constantly move additional forces from other directions to the Kursk region, he summarized.
