To the Anti-Imperial Block of Nations
Concerning the upcoming 80th Anniversary of ABN in November 2023
The founding of a new ABN this year is very important for the future of Ukraine.
When Ukraine is victorious in the present war of aggression by Russia, an important question will be the decolonization of the huge Moscow colonial empire. Informing about the ongoing struggle of the subjugated nations in the Russian Federation will be crucial in the work ahead of the new ABN. It is not until the final dissolution of the colonial Russian empire that Ukrainians can live in freedom, prosperity, and peace.
I had the great honour of working in the EFC in the 1980s when Mrs. Slava Stetsko was leading the Executive Board of the council founded in 1967. She had in 1964 attended an anti-communist conference at Lund University, Lund, Sweden, organized by Inform (Free politisk informationstjänst – Free Political Information service) presenting a paper on russification in Ukraine. Later that year Mr. Yaroslav Stetsko and Mrs. Stetsko came to Stockholm, to lay a wreath at the tomb of Charles XII in Riddarholmen Church in the Swedish capital.
Mr. Stetsko at that event expressed his gratitude to Swedes for their historical support of the independence of Ukraine during the Great Northern War 1700 – 1721, a war initiated by Russia and several other nations against Sweden. Closing the presentation he said: ”Today, here, in the name of the Ukrainian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Georgian and other nations of Eastern Europe we express our recognition and gratitude to the Swedish people for the sacrifices made by them on the battlefield of Poltava in 1709 and other battlefields in Eastern Europe for our independence.”
At the time in 1964 Nikita Krushchev, the butcher of Ukraine, was visiting Stockholm. He was outraged over the words of Mr. Stetsko and on one occasion pointedly asked the Swedish prime minister if Sweden was planning to attack the Soviet Union.
