Chechnya, Ingushetia and Karachay-Cherkessia were among the regions that the Russian Ministry of Defense called the best in terms of fulfilling the recruitment plan for contract service. At the same time, human rights organizations have repeatedly announced the forcible sending of residents of Chechnya, including relatives of oppositionists, to the war against Ukraine.
In October last year, Ramzan Kadyrov suggested sending 300-400 thousand inhabitants of the republic to the war in Ukraine – this is about a quarter of its population. Reports of forcible deportation of residents of Chechnya to the war with Ukraine continue to come after the announcement by the Russian authorities of the completion of mobilization.
In recent reports, experts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s growing fears about possible resistance from local residents and the potential loss of favor with President Vladimir Putin.
