The Supreme Judicial Chamber of Moldova (VSP) did not allow the “Victory” bloc, associated with the fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, to participate in the presidential elections and the referendum on the European Union.
This is reported by NewsMaker.
The Supreme Court found the block’s complaint against the decision of the Central Election Commission inadmissible. The decision of the Supreme Administrative Court is not subject to appeal.
It is noted that the “Victory” block was created in April 2024 in Moscow. It included five parties (Shor, Chance, Revival, Alternative Power for the Rescue of Moldova and Victorie) controlled by the fugitive oligarch and politician, Ilan Shor, who was sentenced to 15 years in Moldova.
At a meeting on 7 August, the Central Election Commission (CEC) denied the “Victory” block registration to participate in the presidential elections and referendum. According to the decision of the CEC, it is impossible to register a block with a name similar to the name of another party.
In this case, the name of the block “Victory – Victorie” is similar to the name of the party included in this block – Victoria. The CEC also drew attention to the fact that the already unconstitutional Shor party joined the bloc, and its leader Ilan Shor was sentenced to 15 years in Moldova.
