In Latvia, the National Council for Electronic Media (NEPLP) has decided to restrict access to nine more Internet resources that spread Russian propaganda.
This, according to “European Truth”, is reported by the Delfi portal.
The message specifies that the council received a letter from another competent state institution regarding the verification of the websites gazetazemlya.ru, donday.ru, konstcvr.ru, veteransrussian.ru, dongau.ru, amursu.ru, pskgu.ru, spb.myhistorypark.ru, and gtrkmariel.ru.
Most likely, this check was conducted by the State Security Service (SSB). The letter indicates that these websites disseminate one-sided and biased information about Russia’s war against Ukraine, mobilise informational and public support for the Russian military fighting in Ukraine, legitimise the Russian ownership of illegally occupied and annexed Ukrainian territories, strengthen a favourable understanding of history for Russia, and form a positive attitude towards Russia in general.
According to the SDB, this could negatively affect the cohesion of society in Latvia, interethnic relations, understanding of values, as well as Latvia’s solidarity and support for Ukraine on issues of its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
NEPLP and SDB have established that the aforementioned websites are spreading distorted and unreliable information about events in Russia and the world, in particular about the war in Ukraine, justifying Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and supporting the annexation of part of Ukrainian territories to Russia.
Reports of a “special military operation” in Ukraine were also recorded, which correspond to the objectives of Russian propaganda, and the published information is directed against the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Latvia.
On 4 August, the National Council of Electronic Media in Latvia decided to block access to ten more websites spreading Russian propaganda.
At the end of July, NEPLP blocked access to several Russian websites, including resources for recruiting soldiers to participate in the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine.
