The human rights project “Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial” recognized as a political prisoner a resident of the Khabarovsk Territory, Zakhar Zaripov, who published a post with a proposal to Ramzan Kadyrov to separate Chechnya from Russia. According to human rights activists, there was no corpus delicti in Zaripov’s actions, and the criminal case against him was fabricated in order to intimidate critics of the Russian authorities.
“The text is addressed personally to R. Kadyrov, who, even if he read Zaripov’s “hint”, would hardly be guided by her when making decisions. Moreover, his post is essentially a rhetorical reproach to Kadyrov for the fact that the head of Chechnya, which fought for independence for a long time, now sends its fellow countrymen to participate in aggression against another country,” the Memorial believes.
Zaripov was arrested a year after the publication of a post in which he suggested that the head of the republic not send troops from Chechnya to Ukraine, but instead seek independence for his region. Linguistic expertise saw in these words “an incitement to an armed seizure of power in order to violate the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation.” Now he faces a fine of up to one million rubles or imprisonment for a term of five to seven years.
