The human rights project “Support for political prisoners. Memorial” considers a resident of Yakutia, 33-year-old Pavel Baryshev, a political prisoner. He is being prosecuted under an article about “discrediting” the Russian army due to the fact that he condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine on social networks.
Pavel Baryshev is a resident of the Megino-Kangalassky district of Yakutia, where about 30 thousand people live. According to investigators, Baryshev went live on the social network, during which he made public statements against the special military operation on the territory of Ukraine. This was the reason for initiating a criminal case against him under the article on “discrediting” the Russian army.
Prior to this, Baryshev had already been brought to administrative responsibility twice for anti-war statements on the Internet. In Chatroulette and Bigo Live, he spoke out in support of Ukraine and harshly criticized the mobilized Yakutians, saying that he wanted them to “die first.”
