It is extremely important to bring information about the political struggle of the nations subjugated by Russia to Turkic-speaking audiences. This struggle is aimed at achieving independence, exercising the right to self-determination, and preserving national identities, languages, and cultures. The Turkic world should know that this struggle continues today.
For decades, the Anti-Imperialist Bloc of Nations has included representatives of many Turkic nations — Tatars, Bashkirs, Crimean Tatars, Azerbaijanis, Uzbeks, Kazakhs and Chuvash. However, it is important to remember that the ABN has always been a platform of solidarity not only among Turkic peoples but among all nations that found themselves under Soviet and later Russian imperial rule.
It is noteworthy that one of the ABN leaders was Veli Kayum Khan, a representative of the Turkestan national movement and one of the organisation’s vice presidents. His work symbolised the contribution of Turkic peoples to the common cause of liberating nations deprived of the right to determine their own future.
The history of our national liberation movements is closely intertwined with the history of Ukrainians, the Baltic nations, the nations of the Caucasus, and many other nations that resisted imperial domination for decades. That is why it remains so important today to strengthen international solidarity and to bring the truth about the struggle for freedom and independence to the Turkic-speaking world.
