Details: The publication notes that this victory reinforces Sandu’s aspirations for Moldova’s accession to the European Union by the end of the decade.
Sandu’s direct speech: “We proved that united, we can defeat those who wanted to bring us to our knees.”
Details: Bloomberg notes that Sandu’s re-election was a test of the stability of pro-European sentiment on Europe’s eastern border.
The victory is a landmark one amid efforts by Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin to halt the country’s rapprochement with the West.
According to the data of the Central Election Commission of Moldova, Sandu won 54% of the votes according to the results of the preliminary counting in almost 98% of the polling stations. In this way, she got ahead of her rival, Oleksandr Stoyanoglo, the former chief prosecutor, who promised to maintain close ties with the Kremlin.
The publication adds that Sandu has promised to promote Moldova to the EU, despite stiff opposition from Russia, which it accuses of interfering in the country’s democratic process.
On Sunday, the Moldovan authorities announced ” massive interference ” by Moscow aimed at disrupting the vote.
We will remind everyone: The total count also includes votes in foreign polling stations, which turned out to be decisive – at the expense of the diaspora, Sandu won the elections by a significant margin.
The elections were accompanied by several incidents, in particular, during the elections in Moldova, four precincts were “mined” in the diaspora, which supports Sandu.
At the same time, unknown persons “mined” the bridge by which they go to vote from Transnistria.
