A court in Grozny sentenced Zarema Musayeva to 5 and a half years in a penal colony. She was found guilty of violence against a law enforcement officer. According to investigators, Musayeva scratched the face of the investigator who interrogated her. Human rights activists consider the case against Musayeva political.

Earlier in Chechnya, unknown persons severely beat Zarema Musaeva’s lawyer Alexander Nemov and journalist Yelena Milashina. They were on their way to Musayeva’s court. Nemov said that armed men kicked them, including in the face, and threatened to shoot the lawyer, putting a weapon to his head.
