On January 10, 2024, a meeting of the heads and authorized representatives of the Christian churches of Ukraine took place, at which the Appeal of the Christian Churches of Ukraine regarding the condemnation of the aggressive ideology of “Russian Peace” was adopted.
As you know, the ideological basis of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Russian war crimes and the genocide of the Ukrainian nation is the chauvinist doctrine of “Russian peace”, which is implemented in practice in the form of a dictatorship called “racism”. The participants of the meeting noted that “Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kiril Gundyaev and the Russian Orthodox Church were and remain one of the main creators and propagandists of the ideology of the “Russian world”, which envisages the exclusivity of Russian civilization and its separation and hostile opposition to others.”
According to the heads of the Ukrainian Churches, “This ideology today is a challenge to the preaching of the Gospel in the modern world and destroys trust in the Christian witness.” In their appeal, the leaders of the Churches supported the call of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and religious organizations to international interfaith organizations regarding consideration of the issue of bringing to moral and other responsibility the Russian Orthodox Church, which in every possible way supports the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, incites inter-ethnic and inter-confessional enmity and through the preaching of the ideology of “Russian peace” encourages the genocide of the Ukrainian people.
Church leaders discussed several issues of international cooperation in the context of resistance to Russian aggression against Ukraine and the activation of dialogue and cooperation between Churches and civil society institutions of Ukraine.
The meeting of the heads of the Christian Churches of Ukraine took place in the updated format of the Meeting of Representatives of the Christian Churches of Ukraine under the chairmanship of the senior bishop of the Ukrainian Church of Evangelical Christians Anatoly Kozachka. The meeting was attended by leaders and authorized representatives of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, the All-Ukrainian Union of Evangelical Christian Baptist Churches, the Ukrainian Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Ukrainian Christian Evangelical Church, the Ukrainian Evangelical Church, and the Ukrainian Lutheran Churches.
