A court in the Moscow region sentenced 27-year-old Mikhail Ishchenko, a resident of the Kaluga region, to ten years in a maximum-security penal colony. In 2023, the man, in a state of alcoholic intoxication, set fire to the Russian flag at the entrance to a sports complex in Khimki.
According to investigators, Ishchenko set fire to the flag, “demonstrating clear disrespect for the civil and patriotic feelings, authority and dignity” of Russia.
The Moscow Region prosecutor’s office also said in a statement that the man “intended to participate in military operations on the territory of a foreign state.” No details were provided.
Earlier, the Telegram channel Astra wrote that during the arrest, security forces allegedly found correspondence with the Russian Volunteer Corps on Ishchenko’s phone.
Ishchenko was found guilty under articles on desecration of the flag, hooliganism motivated by political and ideological hatred, and “preparation for participation in military actions on the territory of a foreign state.”
