Yanushkevich — Minsk: “Belarusian Book Collection,” was recognized as “extremist.” This decision was made by the Baranovichi District and Baranovichi City Court on October 14, 2024.
It seems this is a repeated recognition of the same book as “extremist”. On 30 April, the Central District Court of Minsk made a similar decision regarding the publication “Selected Works by Vaclav Lastovsky; [edited, original and commented by Ya. Yanushkevich; — Minsk: International Foundation “Bel. Knigasbor”. It has 510 pages, according to the list, and it is also from 1997.
The previous decision regarding Lastovsky’s works became the 3,247th in the already 1,279-page “extremist” list of the Ministry of Information, the main addition to which occurred after 2020.
Also on 14 October, the Leninsky District Court of Grodno recognized the Telegram chat called “CHAT DVIZH” as “extremist” material.
Vaclav Lastovsky was a historian, writer, public and cultural figure, one of the founders of the Belarusian People’s Republic, secretary of the Institute of Belarusian Culture, on the basis of which the Academy of Sciences was created. Organizer of the ethnographic expedition during which the Cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk was found. He was sentenced to death in 1938.
Let us recall that earlier information materials of the printed publications “Selected Works of Vaclav Lastouski” (1997) and “Selected Works of Ales Petrashkevich” (2017), published within the framework of the “Belarusian Book Collection” project, were recognized by the court as “extremist” materials at the request of the Minsk prosecutor’s office.
In August 2023, the preface by Yazep Yanushkevich to the book by Vincent Dunin-Martsinkevich from the series “Belarusian Book Collection”, as well as the classic poems “Plyvuts vyatry” and “Gutarka staroha dzeda” from 1861 were recognized as “extremist materials”, but in April 2024 they were excluded from the list.
Four more books from the Belarusian Book Bor were also included in the “extremist” list: works by Vladimir Neklyaev, Larisa Geniyush, Natalia Arsenyeva and Lidiya Arabey.
