Official Kyiv condemned the organization of “elections” in Russian-occupied Georgian Abkhazia and declared its support for Georgia.
As reported by “European Pravda”, the relevant statement was published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasized that Ukraine does not recognize the so-called “presidential elections” in Abkhazia, which is under Russian occupation.
“We will always support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Tbilisi called the “elections” in Abkhazia a gross violation of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reports “Novosti Gruzia”.
The statement emphasized that any process of self-determination under Russian occupation is illegal.
As a reminder, the European Court of Human Rights recognized that the so-called “borderization” on the border with the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia and the territory controlled by Tbilisi has created a systemic practice of human rights violations.
