It is well known that Viktor Orban consistently acts in the interests of Russia. His policy is not just a “special position”, but systematic work against Ukraine: undermining our struggle for freedom and attempts to split the unity of Europe.
That is why the statements made by US Vice President J.D. Vance during his visit to Budapest are causing outrage.
Vance actually came to Orbán’s defence, accusing the European Union of fake “interference in the Hungarian elections” and even of attempts to destroy its economy and energy independence – allegedly due to personal hostility to the Hungarian prime minister.
He called the EU’s actions “one of the worst examples of foreign interference” he had ever seen.
And this even though no evidence was provided for these high-profile accusations.
In fact, we are seeing a dangerous signal. The Trump administration has come to the defence of Russia’s allies, which is directly helping totalitarian Iran in its war against America.
At a time when Ukraine is holding the front not only for itself, but also for the security of all of Europe, such statements are not just a diplomatic mistake. They are politically irresponsible, first and foremost, to the people of the United States.
Russia’s interference in the Hungarian election is a great shame for the Donald Trump administration.
