Preface to the second Russian edition
On August 27, 2001, a special issue of Novaya Gazeta published several chapters from the book The FSB Blows Up Russia. Somewhat later, our book was published in Russian and English in the USA, in France in Russian, English, French and German a documentary film “Attempt on Russia” was made on it. In Russia, both the book and the film are banned to this day. Resourceful readers, of course, could download the book from the Internet. But in its published form, the book remained inaccessible to the Russian reader. In 2003, we decided to print the 5,000th edition of the book in Riga and legally, paying customs, bring “FSB blows up Russia” for sale in Moscow.
However, on December 23, 2003, on the way to Moscow, the truck carrying the circulation was detained by the FSB at the 111th kilometer of the Volokolamsk Highway, and the cargo was confiscated. All the more urgent was the need for a second edition. However, we did not consider ourselves in the right to deprive the reader of the opportunity to read the source text. The second edition consists of the original text (with minor corrections and additions) and appendices: the most important and interesting documents we have collected since the publication of the first edition of the book, as well as the most significant articles and interviews concerning the September 1999 events.
I would like to believe that the second edition will not suffer the fate of the first. We assure our readers that we understand what time we live in and are ready, if necessary, to publish the third, fourth, fifth … edition of the book.
