Anti-imperial Block of Nations

On this day in 1940, the United States issued the Welles Declaration, refusing to recognize the Soviet Union’s brutal occupation of the Baltic nations. The declaration allowed Latvia’s diplomats to continue their work and advocate for freedom and independence. The flags of the Baltic nations never stopped flying in the USA.
