Viktor Yushchenko, the third President of Ukraine, celebrates his 70th anniversary today.
The period of his presidency was a fierce struggle with the pro-Moscow nomenclature, which tightly besieged the state apparatus, and the FSB agents, during the time of his predecessors, infiltrated the law enforcement agencies. Yushchenko became the Icebreaker who cleared Ukraine’s path to Freedom, who for the first time at the state level raised the issue of national memory as the basis of our identity: the Holodomor, the Liberation Struggle, national heroes, language, the Ukrainian Church, the course towards European integration and NATO.
Without these and many other efforts of Yushchenko in the historical, geopolitical, and spiritual plane, there would not have been the next Revolution of Dignity, which made us free.
It was Viktor Yushchenko in August 2008 who gathered the leaders of five friendly countries and they flew together to Tbilisi to stand by Georgia, which suffered from the Russian invasion. Who knows… – perhaps this “human shield” played a role in the fact that the capital of Sakartvelo was not captured by the Muscovites.
Viktor Yushchenko became the first truly Ukrainian president, which caused the fury of Moscow. Against him, it deployed the entire arsenal of means: from poison to the devaluation of his efforts in the eyes of his own citizens through information warfare. Through economic gas blackmail and direct threats.
When we listen to Medvedev’s geopolitical delusions today, we remember the video he recorded in 2008 against the background of Russian warships in the Black Sea. One of my friends, having evaluated the picture at the time, said: “Next all that is left is a declaration of war.”
The path of President Yushchenko is the path of a leader of one of the former nations enslaved by the empire. There is nothing worse than being faced with a mortal threat in the lethargic sleep of historical amnesia. Yushchenko woke up Ukraine. Ukraine will awaken the nations of the empire.
Happy birthday, Mr. President!
