16 April marked the 79th anniversary of the founding Congress of the Anti-Bolshevik Bloc of Nations, which was held in Munich. The Congress finalized the concept of a joint struggle of the freedom-loving nations of the world against Bolshevism and Moscow imperialism, laid down at the first Conference of the Enslaved Peoples of Eastern Europe and Asia in November 1943 in Volhynia.
In a short period, thanks to the extraordinary organisational skills and systematic work of the ABN leaders, the organisation became the leading force of the anti-communist movement of the free world. Relying on the network of Bandera’s OUN on different continents, using extensive international connections, the ABN conducted active propaganda and agitation activities, organised street rallies, press conferences, sent memoranda and appeals to leading world powers, and established a publishing business in different languages.
“The collapse and fall of empires, the victory of national principles in all aspects of international politics, are characteristic of our era. National liberation wars, a series of uprisings, can lead to the destruction of the USSR from within. The idea of nationalism is a solution to current world problems based on national communities. All other ideas – balance of power, deterrence – are doomed to failure. Only nationalism can resist the vicious system of Russian imperialism and chauvinism… If the USA provides assistance to enslaved nations, this will create a revolutionary and liberating force against the reactionary force of the USSR,” emphasized Yaroslav Stetsko, the long-time president of the ABN, back in 1964.
How relevant this sounds today, in the new conditions of the struggle of Ukraine and other enslaved nations against Moscow imperialism, in the current realities of international politics and the role of the United States!
Globally speaking, not a single postulate, not a single programmatic principle of the ABN has lost its relevance in the modern era. It is worth noting that in the environment of the organized nationalist movement, the ideas and cause of the ABN have always been a priority. Even during the collapse of the USSR, there was a clear understanding that the ABN mission was not completed, that the Moscow hydra had not yet been finally defeated, that the Kremlin would not simply let go of Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, or other so-called “republics” that remain enslaved – Chechens, Ingush, Tatars, Bashkirs, Yakuts, Buryats, Circassians, Erzyans, Chuvash and other peoples.
That is why in May 2023, the ABN resumed its full-fledged activities in the format of the Anti-Imperial Block of Nations. And this was not a formal or symbolic, but a completely organic and timely step. There was a return to systematic, methodical work on the decolonization section of the struggle.
The informational direction of activity was restored first: a website was launched, which in two years of its operation became one of the key information platforms of the anti-imperial movement, other media outlets of the ABN are developing, bringing truthful information both about the national liberation movements of enslaved nations and about the real state of affairs on the territory of the so-called “Russian Federation”.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the ideas of the ABN at the state level. The development of a separate bill was initiated, which regulates all issues of supporting the national liberation struggle of enslaved nations. Today, such a bill has already been prepared, analysed by specialized institutions and proposed for consideration in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Dozens of reputable public organisations signed an appeal in support of the adoption of this bill.
The educational direction of the ABN is also important. The University of Free Nations was created, where the most worthy representatives of the national liberation movements of enslaved nations are educated and trained. UVN teachers from Ukraine, Lithuania, and Georgia share with the students of the University the practices of the struggle for freedom and independence, teach the basics of statehood, international law, and economics. The University of Free Nations is a unique experience in training leaders of national liberation movements to govern future independent states.
In a short period, the leaders of the Anti-Imperial Block of Nations managed to revive the international authority of the organisation, create ABN Committees in most countries of the civilized world. Today, the American, British, Caucasian, Baltic and other Committees of the organisation are actively operating and developing, effective cooperation has been established with the Government of Independent Tatarstan in Exile, the Committee of the Bashkir National Movement Abroad, the Chechen national liberation movement “United Force”, the Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk People, the Committee of Ingush Independence, Circassian, Buryat, Erzya, Karelian, Nogai, Chuvash organizations that continue to fight for the liberation of their nations. In June 2024, the first World Congress of the Anti-Imperial Block of Nations was held in Lithuania, in the city of Kaunas, which approved the main priorities and directions of the ABN’s work. The main tasks were and remain to support national liberation movements in the territory of the so-called “Russian Federation”, work with the governments of the free world to ensure the realisation of the rights of enslaved nations to self-determination, and the complete decolonization of the last empire on the world map.
The human rights direction of the ABN’s activities turned out to be no less relevant, because Russia remains a cruel “prison of nations”, continuing to torture fighters for national liberation. In November 2024, the ABN launched an international human rights project, “Putin’s Real Prisoners. Political Prisoners of Enslaved Nations”, which became a real breakthrough in reporting information about political repressions against representatives of the liberation movements of Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Chechnya, Oirat-Kalmykia, Sakha-Yakutia, Karelia, etc. The long-standing slogan of the ABN, “Freedom to nations! Freedom to the individual!” has acquired a new and very specific sound. The ABN Executive Committee prepared an exhibition of the same name, which was presented with great resonance in the USA, Canada, Germany, Finland, Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and several other countries. The ABN human rights project is currently on a world tour, and a full list of political prisoners who are representatives of the national liberation movements of enslaved nations has been transferred to ABN’s American partners for inclusion in the list for release and prisoner exchange.
A separate and special attention in the activities of the ABN is paid to the direction of supporting military units of enslaved peoples who fight as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Together with the Defence Fund of Ukraine, all possible assistance is provided to provide such units with the necessary equipment and ammunition. Partnership relations have been established with the Siberian Battalion, which consists mainly of Buryats and representatives of the Sakha people, under the command of the International Legions of Defence of Ukraine.
In the conditions of a great war with a common enemy, the ideas of the ABN regarding the liquidation of the Moscow “prison of nations” are not only gaining more and more supporters, both among freedom-loving nations and throughout the civilized world, but are also acquiring quite realistic grounds for their implementation. Let us express the hope that by the 80th anniversary of the creation of the ABN, for the celebration of which preparations have already begun, the processes of the collapse of the empire will become irreversible. An ugly, understated state that cynically kills civilians, wipes out cities and villages from the face of the earth, that destroys entire nations, that persecutes freedom fighters, simply has no right to continue its existence. Moskovia delenda est!
