Activists of the Tatar national movement who had gathered to attend a memorial prayer at the Syuyumbike Tower were preventively detained. Under various pretexts, police officers prevented people from gathering. Police were on duty at the Syuyumbike Tower, and a film shoot was also imitated, which was supposed to prevent a joint prayer. After the fall of the Kazan Khanate, the Tatars lost their statehood for several centuries and have not been able to regain independence from Moscow to this day. On 15 October, Tatars celebrate the day of remembrance and mourning for those who died defending Kazan from the troops of Ivan the Terrible.
