On 28 April, the Forum of Free Nations of Post-Russia was held in Copenhagen at the Ukrainian House in Denmark. The theme was “Beyond Empire: Decolonising Russia and Rethinking Responsibility.” Aida Abdrakhmanova, head of the Tatarstan Independence Committee and vice president of the Anti-Imperial Block of Nations, officially participated in the Forum.
The forum was attended by politicians, diplomats from various countries, and Danish public figures. In addition to issues of assimilation of peoples, pressure, repression, Russia’s colonial economy in relation to republics and regions, and domestic colonial policy, several important issues were discussed, including how to avoid future aggression and wars from Russia.
Aida Abdrakhmanova once again emphasised that, despite nearly 500 years of Muscovite occupation, we Tatars exist, we remember our identity, we know who we are, and we are not Russians! She also emphasised that only the decolonisation of Russia can become the precondition for achieving real peace for future generations in both Europe and Eurasia. This moment will come, but it is already necessary to prepare scenarios for post-Russianism and make this process as manageable as possible.

Abdrakhmanova also called on Western politicians to move from discussions to practical assistance. For example, they should now become partners with colonised peoples and republics and jointly develop tools for influencing and dismantling Russia’s imperial system. They should not perceive or legitimise the so-called “good Russians” opposition as the only possible one.

The Forum also addressed the issue of the “great Russian culture.” Is this really true, and why are the voices of colonised peoples not heard within this narrative? After all, so much talent has come from these very peoples.
How can we dispel this myth in the West? Aida Abdrakhmanova suggested starting by acquainting the West with the very fact of our existence and gradually introducing our culture. This could begin with famous artists and talents already recognised internationally, but whose non-Russian origins remain unknown.

Aida Abdrakhmanova presented Oleh Magaletsky, the organiser of the Forum of Free Peoples of Russia, with a Committee T-shirt and a letter of thanks. These commemorative gifts were presented through Taras Byk, the moderator of the Forum in Copenhagen.

Overall, the forum was conducted in a lively format of discussions, questions and answers from the audience, making it a successful event. A huge thank you to the Ukrainian House in Denmark for its support, its coverage of the topic of freedom for peoples occupied by Russia, and for the excellent organisation of the Forum in Denmark.
