On this important anniversary it is necessary to remember all those who fought and died for the subjugated nations of Russia and Asia. The guiding principle of the original ABN was the disintegration of the Russian empire but it was also the liberation idea of the Ukrainian nation. Its genesis dates from the days of King Charles XII and Hetman Ivan Mazepa when an anti-Russian coalition was formed. The successor of Mazepa, Hetman Pylyp Orlyk, continued the work for decades.
A heroic arm of Ukraine of the Ukrainian nation during and after World War II was UPA. Its General Commander-in-Chief in May 1945 remarked: The movements of the oppressed peoples as well as the antagonism between the Western democracies and the USSR will increase…To be able to survive to the moment of victory with weapons in your hands and to give leadership to all those fighting Stalin is your sacred duty.
