New geographical maps have been officially released in China. Part of the territory of Russia is marked on them as the territory of the People’s Republic of China.
This is evidenced by information on the Chinese state website “Cartographic service of standard maps” , reports Censor.NET .
The Great Ussuri Island on the Amur River is marked as the territory of China. China and Russia (USSR) have been arguing about the ownership of this territory since 1964.
In 2008, Moscow and Beijing signed a treaty that divided the island between the two countries – at the time experts called it a sign that Moscow hoped for a long-term and stable relationship with China.
On the new official map, China marks the entire island as the eastern point of Chinese territory. In the explanatory note, it is emphasized that “the map is drawn up in accordance with the national standards for the design of the borders of China and other countries of the world.”

In addition to the Great Ussuri Island, China has designated the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh and the border region of Aksaichin as its territory. The Indian Foreign Ministry has already protested to Beijing, Moscow has not yet reacted to the new maps.
The official set of maps will be used in media materials, including news, books and promotional material. Maps can also be used as basic reference information.
Big Ussuri Island is located near Khabarovsk in the Amur floodplain opposite the mouth of the Ussuri River. Its area is about 340 square kilometers.
The dispute over the ownership of the island began between Russia and China back in the 1800s, and in the 1920s and 1930s the island was “taken under protection” by Soviet troops.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the island remained under the jurisdiction of Russia. China has disputed the island’s status since 1964, but after the 2008 treaty, there have been no official agreements between Russia and China regarding the ownership of the island.
