During the debate in the parliament, its participants presented 11 questions regarding various aspects of the transition to a unified Estonian school.
They pointed out that there are serious problems in the existing schools with instruction in the Estonian language. According to them, the large number of children who speak foreign languages in these schools creates inconvenience for teachers.
Kallas explained the situation as the ongoing transition to a single Estonian school.
“The constitution states that the Estonian language is the state language of Estonia, and everyone has the right to receive an education in the Estonian language,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Kallas emphasized that the government has no intention of Russifying Estonian children.
“On the contrary, the government intends to stop funding Russian-language education and switch to a single form of education in the Estonian language,” she said.
Kallas added that during the transition to a unified form of education, it is necessary to take into account the language skills of the child, as well as the linguistic and methodical feasibility of education.
According to Kallas, the goal of the transition to a unified education in the Estonian language is that all Estonians are in a single informational environment and that more and more people use the Estonian language.
“So that we don’t have two different systems – that’s what we’re working on. This was a big problem and I agree that it should have been solved a long time ago. But better late than never. In any case, we must move forward,” said the Prime Minister.
It should be noted that on December 12, 2022, the Parliament of Estonia adopted a law that created the basis and conditions for the transition of education to the Estonian language. The law established that the language of instruction in schools and children’s institutions is Estonian. The law was signed by Estonian President Alar Karis.
We will remind you earlier that ” Fleet 2017,” wrote, that the government of Estonia decided to allocate another package of military aid to Ukraine.
It was also reported that the Governments of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will jointly implement European Union sanctions against the Russian terrorist regime. The corresponding agreement was signed by the prime ministers of the three states – Kaya Kallas, Evika Silinea and Ingrid Šimonite.
