Russia is trying to drag Laos into the war against Ukraine. Why?
The Kremlin is looking for new “cannon fodder” among poor and weak countries.
Laos is an authoritarian state with a small army, a weak economy, and long-standing ties with the Russian Federation (USSR).
● Russia has already supplied Laos with equipment, trained officers, and now can recruit fighters for money.
● There is no official assistance, but there are signals about training “volunteers” — as it was with the Africans.
The Lao army has only 30 thousand soldiers. Even if a few hundred go to war, it is not about force, but about propaganda.
For Putin, it is important to show: “the world supports us,” even if it is a dozen poor soldiers from the jungle.
