By 2027, Lithuania plans to transfer warehouses storing emergency supplies of food, fuel, and other goods away from the border with Belarus.
This was reported by the National Crisis Management Centre (NKVC) of Lithuania, LRT reports, “European Truth” writes.
Head of the NKVC Planning Bureau Aurimas Guščius stated that the NKVC will remove warehouses from border areas.
“Of course, the construction and design processes take years, but 2027 is the final stage of transferring supplies from dangerous areas,” he said.
According to him, 60% of the stocks stored in warehouses near the Belarusian border have already been transported to central Lithuania.
“Civil protection supplies managed by the Fire and Rescue Service Department will be transported in 2027, after two new warehouses are built in central and northern Lithuania,” he said.
The state reserve is used in emergencies or crises, as well as during mobilisation or the declaration of a state of emergency or war.
According to the State Audit Office, 12.6 million euros were spent on the accumulation and management of inventories between 2022 and 2025. The amount of funds in stock, as well as the types, quantities, and storage locations of inventories, is classified information.
Recall that, in March, the Lithuanian Seimas approved the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ proposal to extend sanctions against Russia and Belarus until the end of 2027.
It was reported that last year, Lithuania recognised 1,721 citizens of Belarus and Russia as a threat to national security, public order, or public health.
They also wrote that the Lithuanian Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee decided to ask the government to prepare a new bill on national sanctions against citizens of Russia and Belarus, expanding restrictions for these individuals.
