Starting 1 September of this year, Latvia will ban the import of several industrial goods from Russia and Belarus.
This is reported by “European Truth” with reference to Delfi.
This ban is provided for by new rules adopted by the Latvian government at a meeting on Tuesday.
The Latvian Seimas supported the decision to ban at the end of July, but today’s government decision sets the exact date from which the ban will take effect.
The ban will also apply to goods from these two countries imported from other third countries. The ban applies to printed books, newspapers and other printed products, clothing, other made-up textile products, footwear, headgear, as well as toys, games and sports equipment.
The purpose of the ban is to protect Latvia’s security interests, reduce Russia’s and Belarus’s ability to generate revenue from the export of goods, and limit the flow of Russian propaganda materials into Latvia.
As you know, since 20 August, the Central Statistical Office of Latvia (CSU) has been publishing on its website once a month a list of enterprises registered in Latvia that export goods to Russia or Belarus or import goods from these countries.
At the beginning of the summer, it became known that Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs would instruct Foreign Minister Baiba Braže to find a solution to stop exports and imports with Russia, but there may be exceptions in certain sectors.
