The government of Khakassia decided to stop publishing obituaries about those killed in Ukraine at the request of the Ministry of Defense. The press service of the government has stopped publishing data on the military and mercenaries from the Wagner PMC who died in Ukraine, as they are used by the BBC Russian Service and Mediazona to calculate the losses of the Russian army. At the same time, open data strongly diverges from the reports of the Ministry of Defense.
On April 26 this year, the government of Khakassia published an obituary about the death in Ukraine of a deputy of the Supreme Council, Dmitry Ivanov, who fought as part of the Wagner PMC near Bakhmut. On May 18, the head of Khakassia, Valentin Konovalov, presented awards to the families of servicemen whose deaths became known in November 2022 and January 2023. The press service of the government of Khakassia declined to comment. According to open data, at least 135 people from Khakassia were killed. The actual death toll is likely much higher.
