A discussion of the circumstances under which the Russian authorities recognise the Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk nation, the only political organization of the Oirat-Kalmyk people, as an extremist organization. On August 23, 2023, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kalmykia recognized the Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk nation, at the request of the prosecutor of the Republic of Kalmykia, as an extremist organization, and its activities on the territory of Russia were prohibited. The Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk nation in its statement dated September 10, 2023, stated that it does not recognize as valid and legitimate any legislative and regulatory acts adopted by the authorities of the criminal state, which is the Russian Federation. The Congress bases its conviction in the legitimacy of goals and activities, as necessary for achieving independence on the provisions of Article 1 of the UN Charter
