After the appearance of the ” Union of White Sea Karelians ” in 1906, renamed the ” Karelian Educational Society “, a Karelian primer called ” Little Textbook for White Sea Karelians ” ( Pieni Alku-opastaja Vienan Karjalaisille ) was published in 1907.
Its creators were the famous Karelian public figure Paavo Ahava, the director of the Sortavala Teachers’ Seminary Oskar Forsström-Hainari and the teacher Lauri Pääkkönen.
The primer was used in schools and libraries of Ukhta (Uhtuo), Voknavolok (Vuokkiniemi) and other villages of White Sea Karelia.
