The head instead of the president, optional classes instead of the state language, appointments instead of elections, imprisonments instead of discussions, sending to war instead of developing the youth… This is far from the entire list of what Bashkortostan and other subjects of the Russian Federation have encountered after Vladimir Putin’s obvious course of curtailing the federal foundations of the Russian state. On 3 August 1994, the “Treaty on the Delimitation of Jurisdiction and Mutual Delegation of Powers between the Russian Federation’s state authorities and the Republic of Bashkortostan” was signed. As is known, after 10 years, the document was not extended. The same fate later befell a similar agreement between Kazan and Moscow. Real federalism for Russia or sovereignty for Bashkortostan? The future of the Volga Republic was discussed in a debate format with the Bashkir political emigrant Ruslan Gabbasov and the former chairman of the Public Chamber of Bashkortostan Rostislav Murzagulov.
