These women have different stories. For some, their Ukrainian identity motivated them to actively resist the Russian Nazi regime. Others are persecuted for preserving Ukrainian culture. Some were imprisoned simply because of their Ukrainian origin. In a number of cases, ethnic background became the first factor that drew the attention of Russian security services. For others, Ukrainian roots became an aggravating factor in criminal prosecution.

Yet they are united by one thing: the Russian regime persecutes and hates them because of their ethnic identity.
