Estonia did not extend the validity period of the residence permit of the Metropolitan of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate Evgenii (civil name Valerii Reshetnikov), noting that he represents a threat to the security of the state.
This is reported by ERR.
“The state decided to deny the extension of the residence permit because Reshetnikov supports the aggressor in his public activities and speeches, and he did not change his behaviour despite previous warnings,” said Indrek Aru, head of the border guard bureau of Pyhia Prefecture.
Metropolitan Evgeny’s current temporary residence permit expires on February 6.
As ERR notes, in general, the Russian metropolitan’s temporary residence permit in Estonia was valid for four years. He received a two-year residence permit twice, the last time on the eve of the full-scale invasion.
“According to the assessment of the Security Police, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia is consistently justifying and supporting the bloody aggression of the Kremlin regime against Ukraine. The activities of both Patriarch Kirill and Metropolitan Yevgeny helped spread and encourage the internal security policy of the Russian Federation in Estonia,” said Indrek Aru.
