The Kazakh authorities have banned four current deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and one former Russian parliamentarian from entering the country.
This was reported by Deutsche Welle, citing a source in the republic’s government.
According to the source of the publication, the reason was the public dissemination of offensive and hostile statements against Kazakhstan and its leadership by these individuals. The blacklist included the Vice Speaker of the State Duma, Pyotr Tolstoy, the First Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on International Affairs, Vyacheslav Nikonov, deputies from the United Russia party, Yevgeny Fedorov and Konstantin Zatulin, as well as the head of the Russian Cooperation and former State Duma deputy, Yevgeny Primakov.
Tolstoy previously stated that after Ukraine, Kazakhstan could become the “next problem” for Russia. He also called Almaty “a city of Verny, built by Russians,” and accused Kazakhstan of trying to “invent its own history” to distance itself from Russia. Nikonov, speaking on federal television, declared that “Kazakhstan simply did not exist,” describing the territory of modern Kazakhstan as “a gift from Russia and the USSR.” Fedorov supported Nikonov’s statement and stated that Russia supposedly has the right to demand that Kazakhstan return the territory. In addition, according to Fedorov, Kazakhstan “did not secede from the USSR under international law,” and therefore its statehood is “not entirely legitimate.”
