American General Keith Kellogg said that Vladimir Putin realises the impossibility of winning the war against Ukraine and fears repeating the tragic fate of Tsar Nicholas II. He stressed that the Kremlin is suffering catastrophic losses, and Putin himself is increasingly worried about his own future.
In a comment to Japanese broadcaster NHK, Kellogg said Putin must understand that he will not get more Ukrainian land, and Russia is not capable of winning the war. According to him, the human losses on the front could reach 1.2 to 1.4 million dead and seriously injured, and the country’s economy continues to collapse under the pressure of sanctions.
The general emphasised that Putin is aware of these losses and fears responsibility for his actions. That is why he is worried about the possibility of repeating the fate of Nicholas II, who was shot along with his family after abdicating.
Kellogg also said that a ceasefire is possible today if Russia agrees to freeze the conflict along the current front line. However, it is Putin, not Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is blocking this scenario, demanding that Ukrainian troops leave Donbas.
Kellogg’s statement demonstrates that even in the United States, there is recognition that Putin fears not only Russia’s defeat, but also his own fate as a dictator who could end up as tragically as Nicholas II. This confirms the deep crisis in the Kremlin and the impossibility of Moscow imposing its will on the world.
